About the CBR
The California Breastfeeding Roundtable (CBR) is made up of a diverse group individuals from throughout the state of California. The CBR is a revitalization of the former Breastfeeding Promotion Advisory Committee (BPAC) that was dissolved when the California Department of Health Services reorganized into two departments: the California Department of Public Health and the California Department of Health Care Services.
The BPAC met quarterly for over ten years and was instrumental in publishing the ground-breaking report, Breastfeeding: Investing in California’s Future, released by the California Department of Health Services (DHS) in 1996 and completed an updated version in 2007
The 2007 updated report lays the groundwork for the newly formed CBR. The work ahead will focus on the specific strategies laid out in the report and efforts needed to engage stakeholders in implementing strategies for improved breastfeeding for California families.
The CBR will also be collaborating with state staff from the CA Dept. of Public Health working on an updated California Obesity Prevention Plan to include support for breastfeeding.
The CBR is being managed by the California Breastfeeding Coalition and the California WIC Association.
Meetings
The first meeting of the California Breastfeeding Roundtable was held on December 1-2, 2009 in Sacramento. The meeting was open to the public. Click on the links below to view the meeting's presentations:

CBR Priorities 2010-2011
At the December meeting, CBR members, working in collaboration with all those in attendance, reviewed and discussed potential priorities and strategies for the CBR. Finally, CBR members voted for the top six strategies on which to focus their efforts during the next two years.

CBR Mission:
The mission of the California Breastfeeding Roundtable is to provide policy and strategy recommendations to both the public and private sectors in California to increase exclusive breastfeeding initiation and breastfeeding duration.

Members are selected to serve on the California Breastfeeding Roundtable through an application process. A steering committee made up of representatives from the California WIC Association, the California Breastfeeding Coalition, and the California Department of Public Health review the applications, select final candidates and appoint members to the California Breastfeeding Roundtable.
The application period is closed at this time. The CBR steering committee will be soliciting new applications in Spring of 2011.
